On Dec. 15, the Nueces County Medical Society Alliance hosted its holiday party and the new executive board was installed for 2023. Liz Ferek, the outgoing president, handed over the duties to incoming President Maria Alexander. The new board is ready to make a difference by continuing our outreach programs with member support and participation.
In December the Nueces county alliance participated in several meaningful holiday projects to benefit the local community. Alliance members delivered hygiene kits to George Evans Elementary students and holiday stockings filled with books provided through TMAA’s Texas BookShare program.
Hard Hats for Little Heads: The Nueces County Medical Society Alliance has organized a Hard Hats for Little Heads event every year for the past 10 years and have given away more than 1,000 helmets. In December 2022 NCMSA hosted two Hard Hats events partnering with Foster Angels, a charity organization in the community helping children in foster care with basic needs.
Shop With a Cop: The NCMSA has held this event for eight-plus years. In 2022 the Alliance made a donation and will hold the event again in 2023.
Food Bank of Corpus Christi: The Alliance made a financial donation and members donated time and sorted food at the food bank in November.
An Evening of Wine Tasting: An evening of friends, food, and fun, sampling different wines and bidding on the unknown contents of gift boxes described by a single Hashtag title. This is one of the major fundraisers for our alliance. Proceeds benefit our activities with Hard Hats for Little Heads, Shop with a Cop, and others. The event is typically held in March each year and is headed by the Fundraising Committee chairperson.
First Tuesdays at the Capitol: Every other year, when the legislative session is in place, the Nueces County Medical Society Alliance organizes a group of Alliance members, physicians, medical students, and resident physicians to attend First Tuesdays at the Capitol in Austin.
